EL JO MAR ARABIANS

“Where Bloodlines Tell”

El Jo Mar Arabians, a 31 year-old breeding program, evolved out of a young girl’s (Marg Forseth) dream to raise and show beautiful horses.  Deciding that only Arabians met this high standard inspired this girl to find the bloodlines that would produce the ideal Arabian.  Years of study, discussion, and top show experience were created on what lines would produce a refined horse and a tractable performance horse.  The answer: The FERZON line, the basis of El Jo Mar’s undisputed success.

In 1973 El Jo Mar and the Forseth’s moved to their newly created horse complex, designed especially to raise, train and breed Arabians.  We carefully assembled a group of top halter champion Skowronek bred mares, with outcrosses to Polish and Egyptian national winning stallions.  This endeavor was accompanied by consultations with Dan Gainey Sr., Jimmy Dean, Victor Kerr, and Gordon Shea on the Ferzon bred stallion suitable for El Jo Mar’s needs.  In May ’76 Gallant Fashion, a young Ferzon son, which embodies the finest Arabian characteristics, was chosen to preserve our aesthetic ideals.

Our confidence in Gallant Fashion first had to be supported by success in the show ring.  In ’78 that confidence was confirmed when Gallant Fashion was presented with the prestigious LEGION OF MERIT, the ultimate of the show horse world.  Gallant Fashion’s near flawless record with 16 consecutive halter championships including Region VI Champion Halter, English and Western Pleasure Stallion.  (Ridden by daughter, Kris Forseth, a graduate of Stephens College who studied under Cecile Hetzel-Dunn National Arabian Judge, Janet Dunn 1982 Bronze Medallist-Team Dressage, and Shirley Hardwick-World Champion 5 Gaited Equitation coach.)

A true champion stallion must possess the ability to pass on his success.  Gallant Fashion has proven this again and again with his many, many champion sons and daughters.  He sired Galcimer, US Reserve National Champion Dressage-2nd level and AHSA Horse of the Year, US Top Ten Half Arabian Gelding, Eljomar Dude, Top Ten Scottsdale Half Arabian Gelding Goldie’s Gallant, and countless Regional and Class A winners in halter, hunter pl. equitation, dressage, and western pl.

In ’81 The Forseth’s needed an outcross stallion for the Gallant Fashion daughters. FINZAK++, (shown by Bob Boggs,) 1981 CANADIAN NATIONAL RESERVE CHAMPION FUTURITY STALLION and 1981 US NATIONAL TOP TEN FUTURITY STALLION joined El Jo Mar.  Finzak, a 15’2 hand bay son of Bak, by Bask and out of a Top Ten Ferzon daughter, Miss Finzon.  A Region 6 and 10 Champion Halter Stallion and Region 6 Western Pleasure stallion, Finzak++ crossed on the Gallant daughters was instant success.

In 2004 alone, Finzak++ get out of Gallant Fashion daughters sired countless regional and national winners in halter, showmanship, equitation, walk-trot pleasure, hunter pleasure, and sport horse under saddle divisions.  In 2001, his two sons, Eljomar Commotion and MKS Rafi Sham, were named National Champion Showmanship and Reserve, same class.  The 2001Reserve National Champion Showmanship winner, MKS Rafi Sham stepped up a degree by winning the 2004 National Champion Showmanship class.  Ultimately adding to Finzak’s current title, USEF Leading Sire of Performance Winners.  Currently, Finzak++ is ranked 5th in the US with 2174 lifetime points.  As a point of comparison, Khemosabi is second with 2936 points.  Desperado V leads with 4979 points.

From 1999-2001, the Forseth’s searched for a young stallion to cross on the Finzak++ and Gallant Fashion daughters.  Sattire was the ultimate match.  Sattire, a five year-old, 15’3 black bay (Sharem El Sheik and Musks Angel Eyes) was purchased from Bob and Janene Boggs in the fall of 2001 to continue the Eljomar legacy.  His first two foal crops are on the ground.  High quality foals with big dark eyes, refined heads, upright necks, short backs and straight legs.   Characteristics needed of the sport horse type.

From Gallant Fashion++, to Finzak++ to Sattire, the Eljomar breeding program continues to produce athletic, versatile, intelligent, and willing halter and performance champions at the regional and national levels for youth and amateurs.  Horses that excel in dressage, hunter pleasure, working hunter over fences, three day eventing, hunt-seat equitation, western pleasure, stock-seat equitation and working cow horse.  Eljomar Arabians, a 31 year-old breeding program with great aspirations of continuing for another 31 years.  Midwest’s best kept secret!!
